Who has the best chowder? You be the judge!
The Lake Sunapee Chowder Challenge is a community event sponsored by the Sunapee Parent Teacher Association. Local restaurants and chowder enthusiasts compete for the title of best chowder around! Attendees sample the many delicious chowder creations and then cast their vote for the best. Fun for the whole family with local artisans, children's events, music and much more.
More than just a fun day, The Chowder Challenge is the Sunapee Parent Teacher Organization’s biggest fundraiser. For it’s 12th year, the SPTO has decided to donate the majority of funds to help enrich and enhance literacy. This will be done via iPads and or kindles for classrooms, electronic books for these devices and purchasing books for each of the schools almost 200 children to read and keep over the summer, among other things.
A true community event, it involves volunteers and businesses from every corner of the town. Each year over 80 volunteers are needed to make the day run as smoothly and successfully as it does. Area businesses give sponsorships to help offset the costs and provide a bigger profit that benefits the children and the school. And, of course, there are our Chowder Masters, who generously volunteer their time and chowder (without them there would be no event)
